At Darren Gonzalez DDS, we provide general and family dentistry that includes preventive dental care such as cleanings and exams. This helps patients maintain good oral health and avoid cavities and gum disease. A general and family dentist can also treat any minor issues before they become major concerns. In addition, they can educate patients and families on adequately caring for their teeth at home by recommending proper brushing and flossing techniques. By taking care of your teeth at home every day and visiting your dentist twice a year, you can keep your teeth and gums in tip-top shape.
Family dentists provide care to children and adults, so a family can visit the same practice together. This means that your children can receive appropriate dental treatment at an earlier age than if they went to a dentist solely for children. Children also feel more comfortable with a family dentist because that dentist also treats their parents who would be nearby during treatments. Older children can also receive treatment from the same dentist that their parents use.
Both general and family dentists offer restorative services to improve the overall appearance of the smile as well. Restorative services include tooth-colored fillings, dental crowns, implants, bridges, and more. These procedures may be necessary after an injury or to treat an infection. In addition, cosmetic treatments like professional teeth whitening can address aesthetic concerns a person has with his or her teeth.
Dental Anxiety and Fear Management
One of the most unpleasant parts of visiting the dentist’s office for many people is experiencing anxiety or fear before and during their appointment. Our team understands this and will do whatever they can to make your time with us as pleasant and relaxing as possible. To this end, we offer several sedation dentistry options to keep you comfortable during your visits. Nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, IV sedation, and general anesthesia are available to help patients with all types of anxiety and fear of the dentist. We will help you determine which option is right for you during your visit. We will ensure you are fully prepared for your procedure before we begin, so there will be no surprises. After completing your process, we will give you thorough instructions to follow at home, so you recover quickly and comfortably.
Dental Exams & Dental Cleanings
Regular dental exams are a critical component of preventive care in dentistry. The comprehensive exam enables your dentist to detect oral health issues in their earliest stages when they are more treatable and manageable.
In the examination, the dentist will review your medical and dental histories, perform a visual inspection of the oral soft tissues and teeth, take diagnostic X-rays of the head and mouth, conduct an oral cancer screening, and take intraoral and extraoral photographs of your teeth. They will recommend periodontal treatment or prescribe medication to treat any present condition.
Professional cleanings are also an essential part of preventive dental care. During a regular dental cleaning, the dental hygienist will remove plaque from the surfaces of teeth and under the gum line and gently buff away stains from coffee, wine, cigarettes, and other causes of discoloration.
Emergency Dental Care
You never know when you might need urgent dental care. It’s why our team is always on call to provide emergency dental treatment when you need it most. For example, if you’re experiencing a toothache or other symptoms of an oral infection, you can call us immediately so we can see you as soon as possible and provide relief from pain and discomfort.
Our dentists use advanced techniques to repair broken or fractured teeth, including dental crowns and bonding. They can also repair minor chips and cracks in your teeth using composite resin. If your tooth is knocked out completely, we will do everything we can to reinsert it safely or, if that’s not possible, restore it with dental implants. To avoid severe infections and tooth loss, it’s essential to see a dentist right away if your teeth are injured in any way.
Preventive Dental Care
Regular preventive dental care includes professional examinations and cleanings every six months or as recommended. These visits help identify potential dental health issues early so they can be treated before causing more extensive damage.
Conscious Sedation Dentistry
Patients who avoid dental care because of anxiety or fear can benefit from sedation dentistry. At our dental practice, we offer conscious sedation dentistry, an effective way to ensure patients enjoy a comfortable and relaxing treatment. This is performed using medications and (occasionally) local anesthesia to induce relaxation. With conscious sedation, the patient is mostly awake and may remember some of the procedure. Please note we do not offer IV sedation at our dental office.
