A crown is an artificial tooth that is placed over a tooth to restore its function and appearance. Most crowns today are made of porcelain, which resembles the appearance of natural enamel. These crowns are also very durable. In fact, with proper care and maintenance, they can last for many years. And thanks to advancements in modern dental treatments, we can often provide same-day crowns.

How CEREC Same-Day Crowns Work

Traditionally, patients needed to visit their dentist twice: first for an initial appointment where impressions were taken, and then later for a second appointment to place the crown permanently. However, with CEREC, the dentist can place a crown in a single visit. This not only cuts down on the number of visits you need to make to our office, but it also saves you from the hassle of a temporary crown. After all, the temporary crown can cause you some discomfort while eating or talking. But no more waiting! At your single appointment, we’ll prep your tooth and place your new ceramic crown in one brief procedure. You’ll leave our office with a new smile—all in one day.

Advantages of CEREC Same-Day Crowns

The benefits of same-day crowns include a shorter procedure time, fewer trips to the dentist’s office, and less time wearing a temporary crown. Additionally, they are made from strong, tooth-colored materials that help you maintain a healthy smile while still looking natural and beautiful.

Computer-aided design and manufacturing technology are used to design your crown from a block of porcelain material to fit your smile perfectly. After your tooth is shaped and the restoration is designed, it’s placed in your mouth the same day using a resin or ceramic that matches the shade of your teeth.

Compared to traditional crowns that require a mold to be made of your mouth and a temporary crown to be worn for several weeks, there’s no need for an impression to be taken of your teeth and gums and no need to wait several weeks for your final restoration to be delivered to your dentist’s office.

When it comes to maintaining your smile’s health for years to come, preventative care is vital, and this includes regular exams and cleanings at the dentist’s office as well as maintaining a strict at-home oral hygiene routine. The American Dental Association recommends brushing at least twice daily for two minutes each session with a soft-bristled toothbrush and flossing at least once each day. This will help keep your smile clean and healthy in between visits to the dentist.

By scheduling biannual appointments with the dentist for professional cleanings and exams, you can help prevent cavities and ensure that any decay that does occur is detected and treated early before it can lead to more serious oral health issues and the need for more extensive restorations.
